Conversion Rate — The percentage of visitors to your store who complete a purchase.
What Is Conversion Rate?
It’s calculated over a set time period as the number of orders divided by the number of visitors. A low conversion rate can mean a traffic problem, a pricing problem, or a store-experience problem — the number alone doesn’t tell you which.
How to Calculate Conversion Rate
Formula: (Orders ÷ Visitors) × 100.
Conversion Rate Example
1,200 visitors and 24 orders in a week: (24 ÷ 1,200) × 100 = 2%.
Conversion Rate vs. Click-Through Rate (CTR)
| Conversion Rate | Click-Through Rate | |
|---|---|---|
| Measures | Visitors who buy | People who click an ad or link |
| Where it happens | On your store | Before someone reaches your store |
| Typical range | 1–3% for most ecommerce | Varies heavily by platform and ad type |
Why Conversion Rate Matters for Dropshippers
Conversion rate is often the fastest lever to fix profitability — improving it doesn’t require more traffic or ad spend, just a better-converting store.
FAQ
What's a good conversion rate for an online store?
Most ecommerce stores convert somewhere between 1% and 3%, though the right benchmark depends heavily on your niche, price point, and where your traffic comes from.
Why is my conversion rate low even with a lot of traffic?
High traffic with a low conversion rate usually points to a mismatch between what your ads promise and what your store delivers, or friction somewhere in the checkout process.
Does conversion rate include abandoned carts?
No — conversion rate only counts completed purchases. Abandoned carts are a separate metric that explains part of the gap between visitors and conversions.
